Day 1: Hanoi  Lao Cai
After pickup from your Hanoi hotel in the evening, your driver transfers you to the Hanoi Railway Station and ensures that you get situated on your overnight train to Lao Cai (an approximate 8-hour trip). Relax in the train car and get a good night's sleep in preparation for the next day's trek. Note that your train journey is unaccompanied by a guide; you will be picked up upon arrival in Lao Cai.

(Day 2: Sapa  Muong Hoa Valley (B, L, D)
Your guide meets you at the train station in Lao Cai in the early morning for the 1-hour transfer to the town of Sapa, where you can have breakfast at a Hmong hotel upon arrival. Once you’re refreshed, begin your 6-hour trek from Sapa to the Muong Hoa Valley. Your guide shares stories about the history, culture and farming practices of the local people as you walk past clear streams, rice fields and villages. Enjoy a picnic lunch along the way, as well as plenty of stops to rest, snack on fresh fruit and take photos. Expect some challenging elevation changes and rough dirt trails during your walk through the beautiful valley.

After a rewarding day of trekking, arrive in the Hmong village where your local hosts welcome you into their simple, traditional home for the night. Once you have settled in, a village artisan teaches you the art of batik, a traditional textile handicraft that utilizes beeswax and indigo dye to create patterns on fabric. For the rest of the day, explore the village, chat with your host family and other villagers, or perhaps help prepare the evening meal. Your guide is always available to translate and answer any questions that you may have.

In the evening, feast on an authentic home-cooked dinner with your host family, and experience their way of life during your night in their home.

Overnight: Homestay in a Hmong village

Day 3: Muong Hoa Valley  Sapa  Lao Cai (B, L)
Have breakfast with your host family in the morning before saying farewell. Enjoy a more relaxed walk today, visiting two other neighboring Hmong villages with your guide. Then have lunch at a Hmong restaurant that overlooks a river framed by hills lined with rice terraces.

After lunch, your van picks you up to take you back to Sapa, where you have a free afternoon. You can shower at a local hotel, do some shopping and buy dinner before your transfer to Lao Cai to catch the overnight train back to Hanoi.

Day 4: Lao Cai  Hanoi
When you arrive at the train station in Hanoi in the early morning, your tour ends with return transfer to your hotel.
