Begin your private tour with a pickup from your Essaouira hotel at about 8am, and settle inside your private, air-conditioned vehicle with your driver-guide.
Then, travel south to Agadir, Morocco’s best-known beach resort, passing isolated Atlantic Coast beaches, traditional Berber villages, and the jagged Middle Atlas Mountains.
After roughly 2.5 hours, arrive in Agadir, and make your first stop at the hilltop Kasbah. Learn how this ruined fortified city was one of the few buildings in Agadir to survive a massive earthquake in 1960, an event that led to much of the city being rebuilt.
Wander around the outer wall as you learn how the Kasbah dates from the 16th century, and see some of the remnants of the original dwelling houses here.
Soak in the bird’s-eye views over the city, beaches, and palm-lined seafront from the hill, and then descend into the modern quarter to view the Earthquake Victims Memorial Wall, dedicated to the thousands who died in 1960.
See the wall’s poignant commemorative inscription, and visit the Amazigh Heritage Museum, a showcase of regional Berber culture and history. View the interesting displays of Berber architecture and artefacts, including carpets, jewelry, and pottery, and then head to a local restaurant for lunch.
Refuel with a tasty mealand soda or water, and afterward, get free time to Agadir’s attractions as you wish. Perhaps relax on the 5.5-mile (9- kilometer) sandy beach, shop for souvenirs, or try your luck at one of Agadir’s three casinos.
After about five to six hours in Agadir, reconvene with your driver and travel back to Essaouira where your trip ends with an evening hotel drop-off.
