Spend Sunday morning learning about local cuisine in Mysore. Your host is the sweet and friendly Anu, a Parsi who is married to a South Indian Brahmin, so her menu spans several regions. She runs a restaurant in Gokulam with her husband and is renowned for vegetarian food that is light, simple and incredibly fresh. After arriving at Anu's home you will drive 10 minutes for a visit to Devaraja Market, a 100 year old traditional Indian market place that is colorful, noisy, vibrant and chaotic. Discover local and regional fruits, flowers and vegetables and get a flavor for daily life in Mysore. Return to Anu's home for a hands-on cooking lesson. She will teach you how to prepare a healthy, flavorful South Indian meal in her kitchen and will show you some of her favorite cooking techniques. Once the meal is ready you will sit together at the table to enjoy the fruits of your labor. If Anu's husband is home he'll join you as well. Weather permitting, Anu will serve lunch on her sweet rooftop terrace. Your healthy and sumptuous lunch includes dishes of South Indian and Parsi origin, reflecting her family heritage. You'll sample dishes like masala dosas (rice crepes) with served different types of chutneys, her sweet pumpkin delight, stuffed eggplant, sweet and sour cluster beans, and her chocolate-banana-apple pie. Please note, this is not a professional dining experience, rather this is an opportunity to visit into an authentic, local home to meet a local person and share the culture and cuisine together.
