Starting at McLeod Ganj, fondly called “Little Lhasa”, this four to five hour hike to Bhated River passes through Dharamkot and Galu Temple. Led by an expert mountain guide, the first location the group will hike to will be Dharamkot, a mere two kilometers from Mcleodganj. Dharamkot is a small village inhabited by local people of Gaddi tribe. Hikers enjoy a gentle and gradual walk from Mcleodganj to this famous village with dense pine and deodar forests.
As you cross Dharamkot and reach at a height of 2130 meters, you will find yourself in a ridge covered with high trees and hills. Here, stands the sacred Galu Devi Temple. The group pauses to have ashort break before continuing onwards. Packed lunches which include traditional vegetarian meals can be had here.
This short hike ends at the banks of River Bhated, located in the village of Bahl. Fed by snow, its water is cold and crystal clear.
