Tuong art is a Vietnamese traditional ancestral art. Popular in the 11th century, it became nobler under the Nguyen dynasty, in Hue in the 18th century. Combining music, theatre, mime and singing, it’s an art form inspired by different historical, folk and contemporary themes.
The show, with artists deeply immersed in their acting and artistic performances, will take you on a journey of Vietnamese legends and familiarize you with traditional Tuong music.
Saturdays: Golden Bell Show - a collection of Vietnamese Traditional art performances
The Golden Bell Theater, one of the oldest and most historic corners in town!
Being the only one of its kind, this show presents to you all the sights and sounds of Vietnam through 8 performances of various traditional folk styles all in just an hour.
Other days: Water Puppet Show
The farmers of the Red River Delta originally invented water puppets over a thousand years ago. It began as a hobby for the peasants, and was later elevated to the status of royal entertainment under the Ly and Tran dynasties. At that time, the shows took place in the flooded rice fields and on lakes or rivers. They are now staged in venues or local theatres. This typical and enchanted performance consists of a succession of scenes evoking images of daily life and legends, accompanied by traditional music. One can only but be charmed - or at least amused - by these small wooden puppets moving by themselves on the surface of the water. They are indeed activated by an invisible under-water mechanism, the existence of which you will totally forget after a few minutes… it is fascinating!
After the show, our guide will introduce you some famous and special street foods. You can end the tour by cup of coffee or traditional tea before heading back to your hotel.
