Start your experience with a pickup from your centrally located Kusadasi hotel, and travel in an air-conditioned vehicle to one of the town’s Turkish bath houses.
Go inside and be shown to a private cubicle to change into your bathing suit and, if you wish, a pe
_tamal (traditional robe). Then, when you’re ready, walk into the hammam chamber: a hot steam room with marble platforms, benches and basins. Relax into the steam and wait as you build up a light sweat and the humidity teases toxins and impurities out of your skin.
Next, splash and rinse yourself with water, and stretch out on the central, heated marble slab. Then, let a skilled attendant lather you in clouds of soft, soapy suds and treat you to an invigorating massage.
After your massage, enjoy an exfoliating scrub with a loofah mitten to cleanse your pores, stimulate your circulation and remove any dead skin. For ultimate effect, you may wish to upgrade to an oil massage (own expense), with your attendant rubbing smooth, silky oil into your body to dissolve away any aches and pains.
Finally, rinse with hot water from the bathing basins, and perhaps stay in the hot room before retiring to a cool room. The duration of your Turkish bath can vary, but in total, most experiences last between an hour and 1.5 hours.
Afterward, enjoy a shower and change back into your clothes. Then, leave the hammam feeling utterly relaxed and refreshed, and in excellent shape for the day ahead. Your experience concludes out the bath house.
Please note: If you’re planning on getting a tan during your stay in Turkey, it’s a good idea to have a Turkish bath at the start of your vacation, so your skin is perfectly cleansed and ready for the sun.
