Day 2: Chiang Mai Elephant Nature Park Chiang Mai (B, L)
Set off early after breakfast with a scenic drive by minibus to the Elephant Nature Park, a sanctuary and rescue center for these majestic giants of the forest. Travel through the rural and picturesque Mae Taeng Valley to the park, located approximately 37 miles (60 km) from Chiang Mai.
Upon arrival, an expert nature guide greets your small group with stories about these orphaned elephants, among other rescued animals that enjoy the natural surroundings of the sanctuary. More than 400 dogs, 50 buffalo, 30 cats, two horses, two pigs, a macaque and a cow currently live at the park. As you observe the freely roaming elephants, learn about their plight in Southeast Asia and the importance of protecting them.
You even have an opportunity to feed the elephants fruity treats from the viewing platform before enjoying your own lunch: a delicious buffet of Asian and international dishes.
Then enjoy a refreshing activity: bathing time for elephants at the river! After a safety briefing, accompany a park staff member to walk the elephants to the nearby river. Scrub and bathe one, as long as you don’t mind getting wet as these gentle creatures make a splash. Alternatively, if you’d prefer to stay dry, you can delight in watching their playful antics from the riverbank.
After a full day at the Elephant Nature Park, return to Chiang Mai with the knowledge that funds from your visit help support regional elephant conservation projects.

Day 3: Chiang Mai (B)
Get an early morning start with a scenic ride by songthaew to the Kad Ton Payom flea market. Your guide will purchase alms from the market to offer passing monks ─ a Buddhist tradition that your guide explains.
Famous for its regional cuisine, Chiang Mai boasts an appetizing array of local specialties. Enjoy a traditional breakfast such as rice soup, fried rice or grilled pork at the market before heading to Wat Umong, a 600-year-old temple famed for its large painted pagoda and underground tunnel.
Soak up the peaceful ambiance inside as you listen to the abbot speak about Buddhism and its precepts, such as dharma. Afterward, mingle with resident monks and learn about their way of life at Wat Suan Dok, a neighboring temple where you’ll practice some basic meditation techniques and have the opportunity to make another food offering.
Your tour concludes around midday, but you are free to depart your accommodation at any time. With so much to experience in Chiang Mai, you may want to spend a few more days exploring!
