Visit the home of a Lanna family ─ descendants of northern Thailand’s Lanna Kingdom ─ on this private evening tour from Chiang Mai. Picking you up from your hotel by private vehicle, your guide takes you south of Chiang Mai to Bandoo village in the Hangdong district, located about 9 miles (14 km) away.

Upon arrival, visit the home of a Lanna family whose ancestors immigrated to the region almost 150 years ago by elephant. You’ll learn about their way of life at this traditional teakwood home, where the family continues the customs of many generations and maintains their natural surroundings in a Lanna manner now rarely seen in Chiang Mai.

After your friendly hosts welcome you with a refreshing drink and a comfortable pair of Thai fisherman pants to wear, you’re shown around the lovely home and grounds. Hear stories of family lineage as you’re introduced to antique photos, and gain insight into the role of Buddhism and nature in their cultural traditions.

As you walk around the fruit orchards, see how tropical varieties such as banana, mango and coconut are grown, and learn about fresh herbs and other ingredients used for cooking from the garden. Then head back to the kitchen to prepare a delicious meal with your hosts. Practice blending spicy, sweet and savory flavors as you whip up traditional northern Thai cuisine together.

End your personalized visit in the late evening with dinner, served on the first-floor terrace of the home of Raunkaew-Yanon Family. After sharing a delectable home-cooked meal with your hosts, travel back with your private guide to Chiang Mai where you’re returned to your hotel.
