On this full-day alpine excursion, escape Zurich and spend a glorious day in the Lake Lucerne area, exploring Mount Rigi, known as the ‘Queen of the Mountains,’ and the picturesque lakeside town of Lucerne. This tour is mostly made up of free time and self-guided activities your guide will be with you from Zurich to Weggis, at the foot of the mountain, and then you’re free to explore the mountain and Lucerne at your leisure. Ride an aerial cable car and a cog-wheel train; take in stunning views over the Swiss Alps; enjoy a boat ride on Lake Lucerne it’s a full day of gorgeous scenery and mountain delights.

Your full-day tour from Zurich to Mount Rigi and Lake Lucerne starts with a panoramic drive over Albis Pass and then takes you to Weggis, a charming summer resort town on the shore of Lake Lucerne. Your guide will turn you loose in Weggis, where the self-guided part of your day trip begins. Take the aerial cable car for an approximate 15-minute ride up the mountain, offering you stunning views over Lake Lucerne.
You’ll reach a middle station at an elevation of nearly 4,000 feet (1,200 meters), where you’ll change to the cog-wheel train (the first in Europe) that will take you on another 10- to 15-minute ride almost to the summit of the mountain.
Your itinerary on Mount Rigi is flexible you can spend one to 2.5 hours exploring at your own pace, using the itinerary sheets and timetables your guide will give you. There are beautiful walking and hiking trails, spectacular panoramic views over the Swiss Alps, restaurants where you can relax and have a bite to eat, and more.
You’ll then take a cog-wheel train down the mountain to the lakeside village of Vitznau, where you’ll board a paddle-steamer for the approximate 45-minute boat ride to Lucerne. In Lucerne, you’ll have free time to explore; walk along the lake, visit the Old Town and admire the Chapel Bridge. Your guide will meet you at the end of the day in Lucerne and escort you by coach back to Zurich.
Between 1st and 18th April 2019the aerial cable car is under maintenance. In this case you will travel up and down Mt. Rigi by cogwheel train.

The Swiss Alps, including Mount Rigi, can fall victim to bad weather, even in the summer. At times, closure of mountain transportation at short notice is required. Should this happen before your tour departs, you can claim a full refund, redeem your voucher for the same tour on an alternative day, or choose another tour of similar price and duration. Should this happen after your tour departs, you will either be re-routed to an alternative mountain or offered a Lucerne city tour and appropriate compensation

Between 25 March and 26 April 2019 the aerial cable car is under maintenance. In this case you will travel up and down Mt. Rigi by cogwheel train.

Train ride up Mt Rigi and walking at top excellent. Did not need as much time as provided so we came down hour early. Boat to Lucerne and walking in city was enjoyable.

This is an excellent one day excursion. Plenty of time to enjoy the view of the surroundings below and the Swiss Alps from Rigi. Plan a picnic if possible and take a blanket or something to sit on. It will be the best picnic ever. Only 2 hours in Lucerne but that is plenty to see the highlights of the city.

nothing to fault, think the tour size was large from memory but yeh. Can probably do it on your own if you bothered to and less rushed.

We had a beautiful day even though it was hot and close to 90 degree's. The bus was very comfortable and our tour guide was knowledgable and very sweet. If you plan on having lunch atop Rigi, it was a bit pricey so if you want to save money pack a lunch and bring a towel to sit and enjoy the views. On the way up on tram, met a local with 2 dogs who rudely screamed at a woman in our group who petted one of her dogs. Apparently, you don't touch or pet dogs in Switzerland so beware. Otherwise, was a lovely day and meeting points were easy to find.

This is a completely self-guided tour besides transportation. You are dropped off at the cable car station of Mt Rigi. There is a suggested itinerary to help you plan your day. We took the cable car then train to get to the top. You can easily spend several hours walking around up at the top. There are a few shops and restaurants at the top. We took a train to bottom and caught the boat to Lucerne. The boat ride was enjoyable. However, the top part of the boat is for first class tickets only. It down poured while we were in Lucerne but cleared up. Very nice town but I would recommend looking into some things to do before going.

Nice tour, but viewing on Mount Rigi is at the mercy of the weather. Lake Lucerne is beautiful, but the time in Lucerne City is quite limited.

The tour was good.!We got a bit delayed in leaving Zurich, but everything else went as planned. We enjoyed very much Mount Rigi and I definitely recommend this tour. It was also nice to have time to ourselves in Lucerne to go around the town and do a bit of shopping.
