Departing from central Lisbon, head to one of the most mystical places in Portugal,
Almourol Castle, which was built by the Knights Templar to defend the boundary line below the Tagus River. Take a boat ride on the river to the castle, where you’ll have half an hour to explore and soak up the medieval atmosphere.
Next, enjoy the drive in a comfortable minivan to the beautiful village of
Constncia, known for being one of the places frequented by famous Portuguese poet Lu□s Vaz de Cames, who wrote the epic poem
Os Lus□adas. With your expert guide, take a walk in Parque Constncia, one of the most magnificent parks in this region of Portugal, and enjoy the contact with nature, just like the Templar Knights did. Here you will also taste a typical delicacy made from almonds and eggs (included).
Your next stop is the beautiful city of
Tomar, one of Portugal’s historical gems. The city was built according to the rules of the Knights Templar, with four religious monuments constructed around the city to form a perfect crucifix. The most impressive of these monuments is the ensemble of the Castle of Tomar and the
Convent of Christ, a UNESCO World Heritage Site built by the Templars in the 12th century. Visit the castle and convent with your guide. You'll spend a good part of your day in Tomar, where you can enjoy lunch at a local eatery (own expense) and walk to popular Tomar attractions like the Gothic-style
Church of Santa Maria do Olival, built in the 12th century as the pantheon for the Knights Templar.
After exploring Tomar, return to Lisbon by comfortable minivan.

Maximum of 8 persons per vehicle.

It's a good idea to wear tennis shoes or other appropriate footwear for the tour and bring along a bottle of water. In summer bring your sunscreen and in winter it gets very cold so make sure you bring a jacket.

A minimum of 2 people and maximum of 8 people per booking is required: there is a possibility of cancellation after confirmation if there are not enough passengers to meet requirements. In the event of this occurring, you will be offered an alternative or full refund.

A moderate amount of walking is involved.

Not wheelchair accessible.

Boat ride is subject to favorable weather conditions. If canceled due to poor weather, you will be given an alternative.

In case of adverse weather conditions (e. g. heavy rain), the tour will not be canceled, unless there are warnings and alerts by official organisms.

We are not responsible for any traffic congestion in the city, resulting from cultural, sport and religious events, or even demonstrations / strikes, etc. However we will always offer alternatives to avoid these situations; one of them is to change the pick-up and drop-off locations. Unfortunately, this may be transmitted without prior notice.

It was a great tour. There were just couples and Elizabeth did a wonderful job switching between English and Portuguese. Be prepared for lots of stairs, but worth the climb.

Great tour if you are into the Knights Templar. Our tour guide Carlos was extremely knowledgeable and very help full. Sound while driving was a little hard to hear but when we asked for clarification Carlos always answered our questions.

If you are interested in the Knights Templar, then this is the tour for you. We had a very knowledgeable guide who took us to Almourol castle which can only be accessed by boat. Then, we visited the Templar Convent and castle in Tomar, and tasted local foods along the way.

We had a small group tour 8 people in medium-sized van today with Carlos, and it was very enjoyable...

We had debated on saving money by going to Tomar on our own to see the Convent of Christ -- a MUST-SEE in Portugal, one of the best sites we visited in our 5-week stay here! -- but we opted for this tour because we wanted to see more than just that, plus have the convenience and knowledge of a guide.

Carlos did not disappoint... he told the stories of the Knights Templar and their follow-up Order of Christ very well, summarizing it into a perfect condensed version while on our way to the sites to see.

The sites we visited were perfect, and all in all it was a great day. I chose this tour for the extra sites, the convenience over trying to do it ourselves via train to Tomar from Lisbon, and the extra guidance such as spoken information... and this was, perhaps, the most informative tour of the 3 or 4 we have taken in Portugal.

If you want to save a few bucks and only see the Convent, you can take the train. But if you want to save time and stress, learn some history, and see more sites including a short but beautiful boat ride in the rider to the wonderful castle at Almourol, take this tour.

The only detail that I didn't like : in Viator says that I would be pick up and drop back from my hotel and I was not. Someone has to correct that.
