Minho River that separates Portugal from Spain is also the name of this amazing region. The supposed birthplace of Portugal is the city of Guimares where you can visit the castle which, according to legend, saw the birth of the first king of Portugal; the chapel where he was baptized and also nearby is the Duke Palace of Bragana.
Guimares was considered a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2001. Guimares knew how to reconcile the history and the subsequent maintenance of heritage with the dynamism and entrepreneurship that characterize modern cities, manifested in nomination for European Capital of Culture in 2012.
On the way to Braga you will have the opportunity to enjoy the scenery and admire the vineyards planted on fences where they grow the grapes used for the production of white wine. On the hillside stands the imposing staircase of the Sanctuary of Bom Jesus, whose way of the cross leads us between chapels and fountains surrounded by the beautiful gardens where nature and spirituality engage.
