Put on warm winter layers and make your own way to the safari center in central Troms. Settle into a comfortable coach with your guide and drive through the snowy Lapland wilds to a rural reindeer farm.

After a roughly 30-minute journey, arrive at the reindeer farm and meet the friendly herders dressed in colorful Sami costume, and their beautiful reindeers. Don your supplied thermal suit, hat and gloves, and learn about reindeer husbandry and how these sturdy animals have been central to survival for the Sami ─ the indigenous people of Lapland ─ for centuries.

After a safety briefing and instructions, board your 2-person sleigh and enjoy a wonderful ride along wooded trails. Cozy up under the sleigh rugs and admire the snow-bound scenery to the sound of reindeer bells and reindeer hooves crunching in the snow.

After around 30 minutes, return to the reindeer farm and defrost by the fire in a cozy, teepee-like lavvo. Sip on a hot drink and enjoy some hearty Sami bidos, a traditional reindeer or moose meat broth filled with chunky potatoes and vegetables. As you warm up, hear about fascinating Sami culture and the history of these hardy peoples from your guide.

Outside, enjoy a demonstration of Lapland lasso-throwing, the traditional means used by herders to control and corral their reindeers. Watch as a herder throws a lasso around reindeer antlers, and then try it yourself.

When the time comes, board your coach for Troms, where your experience ends at the safari center.
