Essaouira is one of the hot spot surfing towns in Morocco. The beach is located on the south side of Essaouira as you enter the town.
Essaouira is now also becoming a more popular water sports destination and is a great spot for both kiting and surfing from both novice riders through to more experienced riders looking to improve their skills or just have fun in a new spot.
The water is shallow with a sandy bottom and lack of current make it perfect for beginners, it also offers the more experienced riders a great variety of wave riding and flat riding depending on the swell and wind direction.
Depart from Marrakech, the famous red city of Morocco, at 8:00 am in the direction of Essaouira. This city was known in the time of 11th-century Geographer al-Bakri and, as he reported, was called Sidi Megdoul. In the 16th-century, a corruption of this name became known to the Portuguese as Mogador or Mogadore. The Berber and Arabic names mean the wall, a reference to the fortress walls that originally enclosed the city.
The ancient fortified town of Essaouira offers a unique mixture of culture and Atlantic sailing conditions. This pretty whitewashed town has been a thriving port for fifteen centuries and is steeped in history, offering an exciting and enchanting holiday destination.
On the way stop over at the small female co-op to see the production of Argan oil. On arrival you go to the beach to get your surf equipment and you start your 2 hour lesson. After that you will have a break for lunch in the Medina and a city tour of Essaouira including the Scala, the fishing port and the old town with its Thuya wood workshops. After that you will head back to the beach in the afternoon for more practice or time to relax, depending on the weather conditions.
