After pickup from your Playa del Carmen hotel, travel with your guide to a ferry station and step onto a boat that cruises to Cozumel Island. Mayans of long ago once frequented this island for ceremonial rites and commercial trade. Today, Cozumel is renowned for its snorkeling and diving sites along the Mesoamerican Reef, the largest reef system in the Americas and the second largest in the world.
Upon arrival, follow your guide to either the reef of Paraiso Bajo or Paraiso Alto for your snorkel outing. After a safety briefing, slip on the provided gear and peer into a wondrous Caribbean biosphere: communities of coral, great varieties of tropical fish, turtles, lobsters and more all live in the waters below.
After snorkeling, you’re free to spend the day as you like. Want more water activities? No problem, your guide can help you line up a diving trip or any other adventure (own expense) that interests you.
Or, kick it down a notch and wander into the jungle on secluded trails and stumble into remote stretches of beach. Find shade under a coconut palm and luxuriate in the fact that you have nothing to do.
Satisfy hunger pangs with a delicious Mexican lunch at a local restaurant in San Miguel. Afterward, walk through the charming town, go souvenir-shopping, and admire the sculptures and monuments dotting the malec□n, or seaside boardwalk.
When it’s time to leave, board the return ferry with your guide and enjoy transport back to your Playa del Carmen hotel.
