Day 1: Kuala Lumpur ─ Bekok (D)
In the morning, depart Kuala Lumpur upon hotel pickup and drive overland to the town of Bekok aboard a 4WD vehicle ─ an approximate 2-hour journey. Upon arrival, you’ll take a break for lunch (own expense) and then register at the park headquarters with your guide.
Continue by 4WD to Lubok Tapah or Merekek base camp via a logging trail, and check in to your basic accommodation upon arrival. Then, after a short rest, get ready for your first eco-adventure in Endau Rompin National Park.
Following a short orientation, embark on a guided trek through undulating low hills along a riverside path. Listen to the burbling of water rushing over rocks as you traverse the lowland tropical rainforest. An accompanying aborigine guide identifies and explains the use of certain herbs and plants encountered along the way, and shares knowledge of medicinal cures for ailments using the roots of plants.
After a short uphill climb, you’re rewarded by the sight and sound of Takah Tinggi, one of the most stunning of the park’s 20 or so photo-worthy waterfalls. After gazing at its height of more than 500 feet (152 meters) spanning across seven tiers, hike back to your base camp where you can get some rest.
Enjoy a dinner of local dishes such as curry chicken, fried fish, mixed vegetables and fish ball soup.
In the evening, your guide leads you on a night walk along the 4WD trail (dependent on weather conditions). Keep a look out for some of the animals that live in the national park, such as foxes, porcupines, wild cats, mouse deer, snakes and other nocturnal creatures.
Overnight: Lubok Tapah Chalet in Bekok
Day 2: Bekok ─ Kuala Lumpur (B, L)
After an American-style breakfast of bread, eggs and sausage, your guide conducts a short briefing on the day’s itinerary, including a trek to Takah Pandan Falls.
Once you’re fortified, begin hiking on a flat path along the riverside followed by a steep climb over a hill. The rest of the journey is much easier, but could become difficult with rainfall as the slopes get slippery. On arrival, spend time soaking up the breathtaking landscape and taking photographs of the falls, which cascade more than 100 feet (30 meters) over a vertical rock wall.
When it’s time to return after a brief rest, your guide follows an easier route back to the base camp, where you can feast on authentic Malaysian dishes for lunch.
Your afternoon is spent on a 2-hour river tubing activity. Hop into your provided tube (or share with another if you can fit two people), and float downstream on the Selai River. How much you paddle depends on seasonal water levels and water flow, and you may swirl along some rapids along the way.
Your 2-day adventure in Endau Rompin National Park ends in the late afternoon as you depart for Kuala Lumpur and your city hotel.
