Vjetrenica cave. You'll be accompanying professional guide during your
adventure in cave.
The Vjetrenica cave, breathtaking web of tunnels and halls, is hidden gem of southwestern Bosnia and Herzegovina and its one of the most interesting caves in this region. In translation, Vjetrenica means “wind cave“ because while entering the cave first impression will be cold blast of air on your cheeks. Constant air temperature is about 11 degrees. The cave has been explored and described to a total of 6.7 km in length and in tourism purposes for now it's available to visit only 600 meters.
Experts plan to expand the length of route for tourists but they'll keep on mind to have cave protected. Geologists have predicted that Vjetrenica could stretch right to Adriatic sea in the Croatia, 15-20 km away from it's entrance. Vjetrenica is considered to have richest cave fauna with high rate of endemism. One of them is dragon's offspring the human fish or olm. Part opened for visitors has five chambers and four calcite lakes. The most interesting and beautiful is the Golden Hall, which is 45 meters long and the left side of the hall is covered in yellow, that is why it was called the Golden Hall.
After visit to Vjeternica cave, you will continue your road trip to Orahov do with short stop in small, old village called ealjari, the whole village built only in stone. After ealjari we continue towards Orahov do and first saved documents of this village are dating from 15th century. It was a birthplace of Nikola Boakovi, father of famous astronomer Ruer Boakovi. There will welcome you local family and two horses and one pony which will be great experience for children. You'll be offered to taste some delicious smoked ham, cheese and vine. All products are organic and home made in traditional way. After snack, exploring village and Ruer Boakovi's home we'll be returning towards Dubrovnik.
