Concha y Toro Winery Tour (4 hours):
After a 30-minute drive south from Santiago, arrive at the beautifully landscaped grounds of Concha y Toro winery, located in the Maipo Valley winemaking region. Your winery guide begins your tour beside Casona, the former summer home of the Concha y Toro family. Then, walk over to the old Pirque vineyards to learn about the winery’s techniques for growing the vines. Soak up wonderful views of the Maipo Valley from a terrace as you hear about the winery’s history dating back to 1883.

Afterward, enjoy a tasting of Casillero del Diablo, one of the best-known Chilean wines in the world, made from a carmenere varietal (a grape originally from Bordeaux). Next, descend into the winery’s underground cellar, called Casillero del Diablo (the Devil’s Cellar). Learn about the legend that started here in the late 1800s, when Concha y Toro’s founder claimed that the devil lived in the cellar ─ an effort to keep people away from his private collection of wine.

End your tour at the wine bar for a wine tasting. Sample four wines from Marques de Casa Concha, a premium label, accompanied by gourmet cheese. Before you’re taken back to Santiago, be sure to visit the wine shop for bottles of wine to take home.

Via del Mar and Valparaiso Day Trip (8 hrs):
From Santiago, relax on the 2-hour drive toward the coastline to the seaside resort of Via del Mar, stopping along the way at Reaca beach to admire stunning views. At Via del Mar, where the wealthy residents of Santiago retreat to on the weekends, settle in at one of several restaurants recommended by your guide for lunch (own expense).

Next, discover for yourself why Via del Mar is known as the ‘Garden City.’ Cruise down the landscaped boulevard of Liberty Avenue lined with impressive mansions. Pass by Las Salinas beach, the 1930s casino Presidential Palace and a massive moai statue from Easter Island.

After Via del Mar, move on to Valparaiso, a port city from the 16th century, built on 43 hills. Follow your guide into this undulating maze of cobblestone streets and crumbling mansions. Ascend winding streets to Cerro Concepci□n, home to the city’s first funicular. At Plaza Sotomayor, learn naval history, and then capture panoramas of the harbor from the lookout point of Mirador 21 de Mayo. In the evening, enjoy a pleasant drive back to your Santiago hotel.
