You’ll travel through some of England’s most important periods in history on this excursion, from the prehistoric mysticism of Stonehenge to the largest occupied castle in the world at Windsor, the favorite weekend residence of Her Majesty the Queen.
The day starts at Windsor Castle and a chance to marvel at over 900 years of history going back to William the Conqueror, wonderfully encapsulated in the stunning State Apartments, which include the lavishly furnished White, Green and Crimson Drawing Rooms. Other highlights of the visit include the Gothic splendour of St.George’s Chapel and Queen Mary’s Dolls House, with its wonderful attention to detail.
Perched on the southern slopes of the Cotswolds and ringed by seven hills, the city of Bath offers visitors a wonderful mix of ancient spas and Georgian splendour, with the glorious Palladian architecture recognised by its Unesco World Heritage status.
There’s time to explore the Roman Baths Museum (own expense), with a chance to visualize life in Roman Britain, before fast forwarding 1500 years to the honey-hued crescents, parades and circuses, perfectly showcased by the Royal Crescent. This sweeping row of 30 terraced houses is recognized as one of England’s greatest examples of Georgian architecture, with the stone facade remaining as it was when first built over 230 years ago.
Your visit to this wonderful city wouldn’t be complete without sampling the breath-taking views from the beautiful Pulteney Bridge, one of a handful of historic bridges in the world with shops built into it. Your guide will make sure you don’t leave this memorable city before taking some photos of this stunning bridge viewed from Parade Gardens park by the crescent weir!
Last stop on this memorable journey takes you to the World Heritage site of Stonehenge, built in 3 stages from approximately 3000 BC and renowned today as one of the World’s most popular prehistoric monuments. Your visit will trigger more questions than answers as we continue to search for the motives behind this vast collection of Stones intended for. There will be plenty of time at your disposal to visit the Visitor Centre, with its mixture of permanent and temporary exhibitions.
