Colosseum It is a “must see” for every visitor to Rome. In 80 AD it was the largest amphitheatre built in Rome and could house up to 50,000 people! The nearby Palatine Hill is the gateway to one of the biggest archaeological parks in the world: Roman Forum, the political, administrative and religious heart of Rome.
Afterwards we trace a path through the cobbled streets of the city to the Spanish Steps and then the Trevi Fountain, gateway to Baroque Rome (Trevi Fountain partially accessibile due to restoration works until late 2015). Your private vehicle will always escort you as closed as possible to the monuments in order to save precious time during this amazing and intensive journey. The tour also includes the majestic Piazza Navona with masterpieces of Bernini and Borromini: the Rivers Fountain and Sant'Angnese Church.
The tour then will proceed with The Pantheon: until the 20th century, it was the largest circular structure in the world. The Pantheon is located in the heart of the ancient centre of Rome in one of the most beautiful squares in the historical centre. Here you will enjoy a fantastic gelato stop in a historical bistrot overlooking this superb square from a special point of view, you can sit and relax at the outdoor or indoor tables and tasting a wonderful, authentic "coppa di gelato" with mouthwatering local flavors: pistacchio, cream, stracciatella or maybe chocolate? You will be spoiled for the choice!
After this refreshing break, start the Christian Rome Trail with its gems: St Peter's Basilica and the imposing St. Peter's Square. It was until few years ago the largest church ever built and it remains one of the holiest sites in Christendom.Then your skilled guide will show you one of the hidden gems in Rome: San Pietro in Montorio Church and the Bramante Temple. Considered the first great building of the Renaissance, Bramante’s sublime little Temple stands in the courtyard of the Chiesa di San Pietro in Montorio, on the spot where St Peter is said to have been crucified. It’s a small building, but its classically inspired design and ideal proportions are a perfect example of the Renaissance zeitgeist. From the nearby Gianicolo Hill you will then be rewarded by a magnificent view on Rome for a special picture stop before returning to the port.
After greeting your guide, finally enjoy a relaxed tranfer back to the port of Civitavecchia around 4.00 pm. Drop-off directly at the dock within 5.30 pm.
