The tour ends at the famous Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore, the first one dedicated to Mary. The Basilica of Santa Maria Maggiore stands at the top of Cispio, one of the three peaks of the Esquiline Hill. According to legend, in 352, the Pope dreamed of the Madonna instructing him to build a church where he found the snow. When on the morning of August 5th, in the middle of a hot Roman summer, it snowed on Esquilino Hill, the Pope obeyed and built the church precisely called St. Mary of the Snow.
