Begin your tour at the Colosseum. Follow your guide into the ancient structure's Undergrounds, where gladiators could once hear the cheering of the crowd. See the newly constructed timber elevator for a glimpse at how the Romans hoisted animals up to the arena level. There were 28 of these elevators in the Colosseum, each powered by eight people. During this part of the tour your will walk on the fight arena where gladiators once fought.
Afterward, follow your guide to the Roman Forum, the center of life in Ancient Rome where people conducted business, sought justice, and discussed politics and philosophy. Off the Via Sacra ─ the street diving the Forum ─ visit the altar where Caesar was cremated.
Continue to the Temple of the Vestal Virgins, where virgins tended the eternal flame, ensuring the fortune and glory of Rome, and to the Senate building. See two magnificent arches: the white marble Arch of Septimius Severus and the Arch of Constantine. Constantine’s arch marks the emperor’s victory over the pagans and the moment when Christianity became the religion of the Empire.
Then head to Palatine Hill, where the She-Wolf Lupa nursed the twin founders of Rome: Romulus and Remus. It is the oldest part of Rome and the area later favored by Rome’s richest and most powerful families.
This is a tour of maximum 12 people for the whole duration of the tour (the whole ancient city: Roman Forum and Palatine Hill), except inside the Colosseum. In compliance with the Colosseum Administration's rules, we will be in a group of 24 when exploring the famous amphitheater.

You will be asked to also provide your name, last name and date of birth (at the beginning of the tour, if not provided beforehand.) Security may prevent you from entering the site if the information provided is not accurate and/or don't match the one on your ID.

Colosseum and Roman Forum are ancient sites and not wheelchair friendly. The terrain is uneven with stairs and uphill paths.

Water fountains available on site

Wear comfortable shoes; bring hat and sunscreen

For security reasons, all visitors and their luggage shall be screened; all objects (including mobile phones) must be put in the bag/backpack or in the tray for X-ray screening

Large backpacks, camping bags, bulky bags, and luggage/trolleys are not allowed; medium and small backpacks can be shouldered and must be checked, as any other bag, with metal detectors, opened and visually inspected by security

Group size limited to 12 people in the Roman Forum/Palatine Hill. 24 people in the Colosseum

Please notice that the Colosseum Administration has the faculty to close the Colosseum, or parts of it, with or without notice, for events, strikes, heavy rain, or any other reason. In which case, we will offer an alternative itinerary as it seems fit and offer a partial refund.

Please note that sprays are not allowed inside the Colosseum.

We had a fantastic time with Vincenzo our tour guide. We started with a small group that was combined with another small group to see the underground. Because it rained we were not able to see the underground part of the Colosseum. We then toured the Colosseum and Forum. Vincenzo was very knowledgeable about the area. I appreciated the insight he gave to the sight.

This tour takes you places others don't. The underground complex of the Colosseum is a must see. You will appreciate the genius of the engineers who designed the ancient world's greatest theater complex. Hint: Watch Russell Crowe in "Gladiator" before you go and you'll be able to fully visualize the mechanics of the underground architecture.

This tour gave me history and learned a lot from it. On top of it, our tour guide mixed it with humorto make it entertaining. The ruins of the Roman Forum and treading along the cobblestone path of the Palatine Hill made me think of the movies I used to watch, but now, I was actually on it. Incredible feeling while cruising the ancient path of the Roman Empire.

You can’t go wrong with this tour. Julia was a wonderful guide. Lots of interesting information and fascinating facts. In addition we saw the Roman Forum and Imperial Palace.

It was an excellent tour with excellent and very knowledgeable guides who spoke perfect English.We had two different guides, one for the top of the Colosseum and the other one for the inner/lower part. It broke up the tour a little because my kids (8 and 12 years old) started getting a little restless. While we were in the top part of the Colosseum there was also a third person who ensured nobody got left behind. All of us had our individual headset to hear our guide speak which was perfect!

AWESOME!!! Was able to view the Colosseum main level and the underground. Seeing the underground tunnels and the areas where the animals and gladiators were housed was amazing. Gives you a new perspective on how things were back then. The Coloseum is a masterpiece and I highly recommend that you do the underground tour!

This tour was a little long for the teens in our group. We toured the Forum first and the teens were bored waiting for the underground. It was worth the wait. Great tour lots of history. Our guide was great. I would recommend this tour.

Our family of 4, including 2 teenagers took this tour and it was amazing! Our tour guide, Francesca was so informative and very funny. She went out of her way to take care of us during the tour and even after by suggesting good restaurants to try near where the tour ended. Seeing the underground of the Colosseum was so incredible, it was worth the extra money to get that experience.
