Your tour begins at Caen railway station, making it especially easy to join if you're coming into the city by train from Paris (own expense). Follow your guide to the M□morial de Caen, a museum covering major historical events from the end of World War I to the fall of the Berlin Wall. Your guide - trained by the museum's historians - will explain the intense preparations for D-Day by both sides, and the tremendous significance of the day in the outcome of World War II.
Feel free to ask your guide any questions you may have about D-Day as you indulge in a 2-course lunch served with mineral water and a glass of wine at La Terrasse, a restaurant at the museum.
In the afternoon, board a comfortable, air-conditioned minivan and embark on a 5-hour guided tour of some of the most important D-Day sites you learned about during your M□morial de Caen museum tour.
First off, visit the artificial harbour at Arromanches-Les-Bains and watch the film "Normandy's 100 Days" at the Arromanches 360 Circular Cinema,before continuing to the American Military Cemetery at Colleville-sur-Mer, Omaha Beach and the Pointe du Hoc.
Throughout your small-group tour, your guide will share stories that will humanize the stark statistics of World War II and D-Day. By the end of this powerful tour of historic sites, you'll understand just how much was at stake on D-Day and have a new appreciation for the men who fought and died in the war. Your tour ends at Caen railway station in the evening so you can easily catch a train back to Paris (own expense) if you wish.
On Sundaysand some Bank Holidays the guided visit of the Memorial de Caen museum will only last 30 minutes. This is because the first train from Paris arrives at 11am and the guided tour of the D-Day landing sites departs at 1pm. Please contact resa@memorial-caen.fr for more information.

Trains to Caen depart from Paris Gare St Lazare. You will need to book and arrange your own train ticket.

You should aim to arrive at Caen railway station by the following times:
9am Monday to Friday
10am Saturday
11am Sunday

Details for how to book your train ticket are provided on the voucher. The exact tour departure time will be provided when you reconfirm your tour. The journey from Paris to Caen takes approximately two hours.

The tour is not suitable for children under 3 years old

If you are taking the train from Paris, you will need to make your own travel arrangements and buy your own train ticket. You should aim to arrive in Caen by 9am (10am Saturday and 11am Sunday).

You will return to the station at around 6:30pm from October to March and at around 7:30pm from April to September to connect with trains back to Paris. Train times are subject to change on weekends, public holidays and differ in summer and winter. Ensure you check prior to booking.

On Sundays from January 28 to March 31 and October 1 to December 31 the guided museum visit will only last 30 minutes due to the later arrival time of the first train from Paris

Please find note that the Memorial de Caen will be closed from 7 to 29 January 2018 included, 25 December 2018, 1 January 2019 and 6 to 28 January 2019 included and on Mondays in November and December

This was a well executed tour -- easy to find the tour start, guides were there waiting and were excellent.
Museum -- would have liked more time there.
Lunch was very good -- accommodated a gluten intolerance very nicely.
Tour of the beaches two: Utah and Omaha was a little disappointing in that the locations did not convey the heroic difficulties the soldiers had to overcome. Perhaps this is because you can't get to the shores/cliffs that were crawled over and climbed up.
Cemetery -- excellent. The guide gave a meaningful introduction and overview and then gave us plenty of time to walk through the cemetery.

If you have only a day as I did to visit the most popular sites at Normandy, then I would highly recommend this tour. Our guide,Marylynne hope I spelled it correctly! was absolutely the best - knowledgeable, polite, patient and encouraged questions. Our group was small, and having a driver who knew where he was going was a bonus.Being a first-timer, I could not have done this by myself in the allotted time without going nuts - this was the closest thing to a private tour I have ever experienced.

WELL worth the money.

If you are staying a Caen a couple of days, don't forget the Pegasus Bridge memorial and museum.

When you go on a guided tour, you get a lot of insight that you would not normally have received. On this particular tour, be ready for much driving, but well-chosen sights. Even on a cold, northerly wind day, with the Omaha Beach sand blowing through our teeth, it was worth it. Yes, you can take your car and drive to these places, but if you're visiting France without a car or you would simply like more information on the American sites, it's worth it. It's even fun for children and youth because of the bunkers and things to see and do. Originally wanting to see the British and Canadian sites as well, I now realize why it's better to split these into two days. There's a lot of land, and Operation Overlord covered quite a bit of territory. Special thanks to the tour guide and the driver!
