Travel north along the Captain Cook Highway, one of Australia's most scenic coastal drives towards the World Heritage Listed Daintree National Park, crossing the mighty Daintree River by cable ferry. Journey through spectacular landscapes that contain the world's highest number of rare and endangered plant and animal species. Your guide will enlighten you with stories and history of the region as you continue by 4WD to the Bloomfield Track, crossing rivers and climbing mountain ranges.
Stop for lunch at Ayton before visiting at the famous Lion's Den Hotel, one of North Queensland's oldest bush pubs, established in 1875. Continue to Black Mountain, surrounded in mystery and ancient Aboriginal legend, before arriving at Cooktown. Enjoy spectacular panoramic views from Grassy Hill of the Coral Sea, Cooktown and the Endeavour River.
You'll have up to onehour of free time to stroll through Cooktown or visit the James Cook Museum. (Entry to the museum is not included and subject to season opening times)
Departing Cooktown by the inland Mulligan Highway, you'll travel through a diverse landscape of cattle stations and the Palmer River goldfields region. After an evening meal break (additional expense payable direct), you'll return to Port Douglas at 8.00pm and Cairns at approximately 9:00pm.
There is also an option to fly back to Cairns along the scenic Daintree Coast and the Great Barrier Reef. The flight from Cooktown to Cairns is a commercial flight with Hinterland Aviation. Transfers to Cooktown Airport are included, Flight departs Cooktown at 5.45pm, arriving Cairns at 6.30pm. If this option is selected, your arrangements will end at Cairns General Aviation Airport. Transfers from Cairns General Aviation Airport are NOT included and you'll need to make your own way back to your accommodation. Taxi's and Uber services available.
Please note: The flight will be experienced at sunset during the winter months from May to August.

Our Tour Guide Cathy, was extremely knowledgable as well as a very safe and competent driver. Cathy made our day lots of fun and her local knowledge was amazing. The stops that we made along the way on The Bloomfield Track far exceeded our expectations. Our morning tea stop in The Daintree was so idyllic. We stopped at an Indiginous Gallery in Wujal Wujal. The artwork and jewellery, all done by women, was also amazing. We had a beautiful lunch and then went to visit the iconic Lions Den Hotel, established in 1875. Cooktown is a very quaint town. We traced some of Captain Cook's steps, ironically visiting on the 247th Anniversary of his landing in Cooktown.We returned to Port Douglas on The Mulligan Highway. We travelled as a party of 4 and all would highly recommend this tour to anyone with a sense of adventure and a love of our beautiful country. This tour has now whet our appetite and we are considering a trip further north to the tip of Cape York. Thank you for a fabulous day.

The tour to Cooktown via the Daintree National Park was the spectacular highlight of our visit to the Cairns region. Our driver Greg was very knowledgeable about the environment and history of the region. He was also very helpful throughout the day, friendly and interesting, all while driving safely on some quite difficult roads. Morning tea in the forest was really good with fresh scones. Lunch was a choice from a fairly limited menu but the food was well-prepared and tasty. The only low spot was the stop for dinner - the timing was too early due to the constraints of the schedule and the food was pretty ordinary. I realize it's probably the only place to stop and some might want to eat before getting back to Cairns.

Overall it was a great tour, with a lot to see packed into a single day. I learned a lot about the history, culture and natural environment of the area.

Although unable to take the Bloomfield Track (due to FNQ's notorious summer weather) the tour was most enjoyable with one of the best and most informative driver/guides I have experienced. Time constraints prevented an overnight stay in Cooktown but with so much to see, I strongly recommend that future 'tourists'
avail themselves of this option.

enjoyed the trip, but not the food, at the pub,very long day to do on so little food,up early no breakfast, back late and where we were staying no resturant, not your fault just pointing it out,other than that great trip.
