Day 1: Adelaide Caurnamont (D)
Travel by comfortable coach from central Adelaide to Mannum, just a little more than an hour away. The Murray River paddle wheeler was originally created in Mannum to transport goods to rural settlements on the river, long before trains and trucks were available. Board an authentic model of this historic vessel to explore the fertile lands in this river valley, one of Australia’s most productive agricultural regions.
Your boat starts upriver as you sip drinks then partake in a welcome dinner. Afterward, listen to live music indoors, or watch for animals along the riverbank. As night falls, the boat’s floodlights might help you catch a glimpse of nocturnal critters such as hair-nosed wombats, grey kangaroos, spoon-beaked egrets, Murray long-necked tortoises and more. Cruise into Caurnamont where the boat moors overnight.
Overnight: Caurnamont
Day 2: Caurnamont Burk Salter Winery (B,L,D)
Daybreak and time for the keen photographers to be out to capture the special light and the morning movement of wildlife. Prolific birdlife includes pelicans, wrens and swans. Enjoy a leisurely morning and lunch cruising upriver to Blanchetown through one of 13 locks which maintain the flow and levels of water.
This afternoon, you'll moor opposite to the township of Blanchetown for our overnight anchorage. As the last rays of the sun fade, join a guided tour of Burk Salter Boutique Winery and surrounding vineyard and enjoy wine tasting at the cellar door which is fitted out with beautiful red gum bars. After dinner, join all the fun and excitement, and participate in our “Murray River Cup”.
Overnight: Burk Salter Winery
Day 3: Burk Salter Winery to Sunnydale (B,L,D)
After breakfast cruise downriver to picturesque Swan Reach. The town was first settled in the 1850s, was originally the largest of five sheep and cattle stations in the area and is now home to native flower and fruit growers.
The original Swan Reach homestead is now the Swan Reach Hotel where you can enjoy an ale or cappuccino overlooking the Murray River (additional cost). Join the guided walking tour and visit the Swan Reach Museum (gold coin donation at entry). Cruise downriver after lunch and take in the tranquillity as the landscape slides by.
On arrival to Sunnydale, it’s all ashore for the Woolshed Show as typical Australian woolshed history is recreated. Later, visit the Native Wildlife Shelter where some of South Australia’s most interesting native animals are cared for. And then of course, there is the great Aussie Barbecue cooked and served in a bush setting on the banks of the mighty Murray River. An optional Nocturnal tour (additional cost) in a comfortable purpose built cart is available after dinner where you may see kangaroos, wombats, foxes, bats and owls.
Overnight: Sunnydale
Day 4: Sunnydale Younghusband (B, L, D)
After an optional early morning Bush Tucker Breakfast (additional cost) or a bush walk with the Captain, the vessel cruises slowly downriver past magnificent cliffs scoured by the river over millions of years. Reach Ngaut Ngaut Aboriginal Reserve, one of Australia’s most significant archaeological sites, for a step back in time tens of thousands of years for a guided boardwalk tour to view ancient rock carvings and to learn about Aboriginal history in the area.
Return to the vessel to cruise downriver to Younghusband. Along the way, adventure seekers can also take a scenic tender boat ride. Tonight the Captain and his officers host a spectacular Farewell Captain’s Buffet Dinner. Dress up and dance, if you wish.
Overnight: Younghusband
Day 5: Younghusband Adelaide (B)
Relish your last morning on the Murray River paddle wheeler as you cruise back to Mannum. Here, you meet your comfortable coach for the return journey to Adelaide where your tour ends.

The cruise was fantastic. The food was great and the staff helpful. the room was small but comfortable.

Our recent 4-night cruise on the Murray Princess from Mannum in South Australia was a very enjoyable experience. The vessel carries up to 120 passengers and was close to fully booked on our cruise.
Although they could not be classed ‘luxurious’, the tiny self-contained cabins were clean and comfortable with adequate storage for clothing however the beds rather hard.
The clientele would best be described as mature active, but provision is made for the less mobile. The three decks are serviced by a lift.
The food was uniformly excellent, though not conducive to maintaining a stable weight! The public bars and lounges were pleasant and spacious and the overall service was friendly and relaxed but efficient. The vessel is fully air conditioned.
On-shore activities such as a night-time bush barbeque, a vineyard visit and a trip to a wool shed are included and surprisingly interesting.
One of the outstanding experiences is a visit to the Nagut Nagut Aboriginal Reserve, where archaeological investigations at the base of the towering cliffs have uncovered relics of occupation more than 10,000 years old and where members of the river-side tribes can explain the significance of ancient rock engravings which depict the river animals. A climb to the top of the massive cliffs gives spectacular views and takes you into another harsher desert environment which also shows evidence of its previous inhabitants.
The only caveat we would mention is that it can be extremely hot during the high summer months with a possibility of day-time temperatures above 40C.

This was a most fantastic trip. Personally I have never wanted to go on a cruise but this was so
different. The staff and accom. was excellent and the food was something else. We loved all the
on shore and on board entertainment and have no complaints.
Also we have told our sister and brother in law about it and they are going to take a trip next year.
Thank you John and Val Knowles.
