Day 1: Adelaide -- Minlaton -- Innes National Park (L, D)
Departing Adelaide, sit back and relax as you’re entertained by your guide’s commentary about the region’s Aboriginal and colonial history. You’ll hear about the explorers Matthew Flinders and Nicolas Baudin as you head to the shores of Gulf St Vincent. Your route meanders around the gulf, passing fertile pastureland and coastal mangroves, backed by the ancient Hummock Ranges. Stop for morning tea at the Ardrossan Country Bakery, then continue the journey with a special guest, an indigenous traditional owner, who will share tales from the Aboriginal Dreamtime legends. Take a walk along a coastal pathway to the Ochre Cliffs, whose different colored clays have been used in Aboriginal ceremonies over the millennia. Your guide will point out little-known sites, including ancient fish traps. Leaving your special guest guide, the journey continues across the barley fields of the Yorke Peninsula, stopping for a picnic lunch in the historic township of Minlaton. The afternoon brings you to Spencer Gulf, following a coastal route past fishing villages to your accommodation at a private holiday house. Take a walk along the nearby beach, a long stretch of pristine white sand washed by the rolling waves of the Southern Ocean and bordered by craggy cliffs. In the evening, relax over dinner at your accommodation, featuring the wonderful local seafood.
Accommodation: a private property, holiday home with shared facilities or holiday home with private facilities, on the southern Yorke Peninsula
Day 2: Innes National Park (B, L, D)
After breakfast, spend a full day exploring the coastal Innes National Park, a beautiful protected region of rugged cliffs, beaches and views over to Kangaroo Island. Spot dolphins swimming offshore, take long beach walks and try your hand at bodysurfing in the waves. The day includes a visit to the abandoned buildings of Inneston village, where you can explore the lonely ruins of the former gypsum mining town on a historic walk. This rugged coastline saw the demise of many ships in colonial days, and more than 26 shipwrecks lie offshore. Follow an interpretive maritime trail to hear tales of tragedy and bravery from these days, and see the remains of the Ethel which sank beneath the waves in 1904. Continue the walk to see the coast’s two lighthouses at Cape Spencer and West Cape, and view the phenomenon of stromatolites, extremely rare fossils thought to be up to 3,000 years old. Returning to your accommodation, watch a beautiful sunset to end a perfect day in Innes National Park.

Day 3: Innes National Park -- Adelaide (B, L)
Relax into the day with breakfast and a stroll along the Spencer Gulf beaches. Spot dolphins and whales, have a surf lesson or try your hand at beach fishing for King George whiting. Then head off to visit Barley Stacks Winery, the Yorke Peninsula’s first commercial vineyard, where you can taste a range of shiraz, cabernet sauvignon and chardonnay wines produced from the winery’s limestone-grown grapes. The return drive to Adelaide follows the coast to the top of the peninsula, dropping you off in the city at around 5pm.
