Brooklyn was a beer-brewing capital for much of the 1900s, but all of the 40+ breweries that existed in the borough pre-1970 have disappeared. Find out why, and what is causing them to return, as your local guide leads you on a brewery tour and a walk through the neighborhood of Williamsburg.

Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product

Pass By: Williamsburg, Brooklyn, New York

Toast your way through the past and present of beer brewing in Brooklyn! This neighborhood was once home to 48 breweries, but this ancient trade disappeared from the borough in the 1970s, only to be reborn in recent years with craft breweries leading the way. If you want a taste (quite literally…) of the history behind beer brewing in New York, look no further!

Stop At: Urban Oyster Tours, New York City, New York

On this NYC beer tour, we take a behind-the-scenes local look at how beer is made at one of Brooklyn’s present-day breweries. Explore the pre-prohibition era as we check out 19th-century brewery buildings, visit landmark sites, and share stories of the German immigrants who lived and worked in the neighborhood.

Duration: 3 hours

Pass By: New York City Urban Adventures, New York City, New York

Plus, don’t forget all the craft beer and food along the way! We enjoy a number of great Brooklyn brews from all kinds of spots, and stop off at a local pizza joint. Join us as we raise a glass to the history and masters of beer in Brooklyn!

Very knowledgeable guide and excellent beer

Our guide Verbena was great from our first stop to our last she gave us the history of each place as well as the area these places were located in. All the places we visited except for the brewery were places where the locals go so the average tourist would probably not go there.Highly recommend this tour and if you are lucky you will get our guide.

We had a great day on the Brooklyn Brewery Tour. Our tour guide Brian was very knowledgeable and entertaining. We had a great mix of people in our group and everyone really enjoyed it. I would highly recommend this tour.

Great tour to see the operation of the Brooklyn Brewery, taste a bunch of different beers, learn some of the history of Brooklyn breweries.
Well worth the time and cost.

It was pretty freezing outside but our tour was let in early which was great. Our guide Josh was really knowledgeable and had a great enthusiasm for the brewery. It helped also that the staff member who gave the tour was so funny and very informative. We had some great beers at the brewery itself, then onto amazing pizza and a few other bars and more beers. Cannot recommend this highly enough as you also get to experience a taste of Brooklyn which you might not otherwise see and places you might never know about

Great tour and great beer. Our guide Josh was fantastic. Witty, informative, passionate and obviously loves his job. Met some lovely people during our few hours tasting beer and touring Brooklyn and had lots of fun. Thank you to all involved. Keep up the good work!
