Begin your historical tour with a Hawaiian Continental Breakfast at Spencer Beach just outside Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site. It’s our morning to share “aloha” with you. Our first stop is the Puukohol□ Heiau National Historic Site. Pu’ukohola meaning “Temple on the Hill of the Whale” was built entirely by hand with no mortar, in less than a year. The red stones were transported by a human chain about 14 miles long, from Pololu Valley. From the moment you arrive at Pu’ukohola Heiau National Historic Site, you quickly realize the significance of this unique place. Your guide will share with you the historical importance of King Kamehameha I and this great temple as you walk the grounds.
Your second stop will be the historic Parker Ranch. You’ll tour the two historic homes, Puuopelu and Mana Hale. Your guide will share the Parker family’s story dating back to 1809 and you will explore the Puuopelu known for its European heirloom furniture, crystal chandeliers and delicate figurines, along with one of the finest private art collections in Hawaii. Extending the Parker Ranch tour, you will take a journey up the road to a unique mid-week farmers market at the Paniolo Cultural Center at Pukalani Stables featuring local foods and local artisans in a historic setting (Wednesdays only) on famous Parker Ranch. Enjoy a delicious lunch that’s included with your tour. As an added bonus, the Paniolo Hall of Fame is open for your viewing showcasing a collection of paniolo saddles, bits and spurs, and lots of paniolo photographs and historic items! Live music too a great way to spend lunch time!
After Parker Ranch, you will take a peaceful, serene drive with spectacular coastline views, dramatically changing landscapes, majestically tree-lined stretches and sprawling cattle and sheep ranches. Your tour will proceed to the town of Kapa’au off Highway 270. There stands the original Kamehameha Statue. Cast in brass and vibrantly painted with lifelike colors, your guide will share the story of King Kamehameha who was credited with unifying the Hawaiian Islands.
After your visit with King Kamehameha, you will be taken to the end of the road where you will find yourselves at the Pololu Valley Lookout. You will witness one of the most spectacular panoramic views on Hawai′i Island. This is a photograph that you’ll always remember. Your next stop is Hawi town, home to a handful of charming art galleries boutiques and restaurants set in colorful and lively plantation buildings. You will have the opportunity to browse North Kohala’s biggest little town.
You will now go nuts on our last stop as we visit the Hamakua Macadamia Nut Factory. Enjoy endless free samples of the macadamia nut candy and many flavors of macadamia nuts.
